All-On-4 Implants as a Dental Restoration Option

Dental Restorations Franklin, TN

When you are looking to have a dental restoration, you might be considering All-On-4 implants. However, you might not know a whole lot about this procedure. You may also want to know more about what these are. Keep reading to learn more about what is typically involved.

What are All-On-4 implants?

To know what the All-On-4 dental restoration implants are, it is good to know what an implant is. This is a small screw that the dentist places in the patient’s jawbone. This goes into the space that a missing tooth left. After this implant has been placed, the dentist can then place an artificial tooth on the screw.

All-On-4 takes this concept and multiplies it by four. Instead of one implant for every tooth that is missing, there are only four implants. Each arch that is having teeth replaced will have four implants. So if the patent is having all of the teeth replaced, that will be eight screws. The dentist will then place a denture on each of these locations.

What is the procedure like?

It might seem scary for a patient to get implants. However, most of this fear is probably related to not knowing. Understanding the procedure better can help patients prepare. First, the dentist will provide either general or local anesthesia to the patient. This can help them to be more comfortable.

Next, the dentist will prepare the mouth to get the implants. This involves removing any remaining teeth. If there is infected or diseased tissue in the gums or jaw, this will also be removed. Next, the implants can be placed.

The implant process involves placing the titanium screws in the patient’s jawbone. Then two implants will be placed in the front of the mouth. Two more will be placed in the back of the patient’s mouth. This allows the supports to bear the denture more evenly.

Once the dentist has placed these implants, the site of the surgery will be cleaned thoroughly. The incision will be sutured to allow it to heal better. The patient may go to a recovery room to relax. This allows them to better wake up from the anesthesia.

Benefits of All-On-4 implants

One of the main reasons to choose implants is that they can prevent bone loss in the jawbone. Without the roots of the teeth to stimulate the bone, it becomes reabsorbed into the body. This can lead to a more aged appearance. However, this is not the only benefit for the patients. The dentures will be more stable, making it easier to eat. That allows the patient to eat a more nutritious diet with fresh fruits and vegetables.
