Invisible Braces Options From A Dentist

Invisalign Franklin, TN

Invisible braces, which many refer to as Invisalign®, are a great way to achieve a more attractive smile and fix issues such as crooked teeth, crowded teeth and gaps. It is a very effective treatment solution and many find it to be a good alternative to traditional braces.

An overview of invisible braces options

It is helpful to have a complete understanding of all teeth straightening treatment options before making a decision as to which option is most appropriate. The following is an overview of invisible braces treatment options, including what invisible braces are and how the treatment process works for the invisible braces brand Invisalign®.

What are invisible braces?

Invisible braces are a way for patients to straighten their teeth through the use of transparent trays that are known as clear aligners. The patient wears the aligners over their teeth, and they slowly move the teeth into the ideal position. As the teeth shift, the patient receives new aligners until treatment is complete. Invisible braces, namely Invisalign®, offer a discreet method of teeth straightening and they are essentially invisible to others. Some may refer to ceramic braces as invisible braces as well, although they are not as discreet as Invisalign®.

Are Invisalign® aligners the same as invisible braces?

Invisalign® is perhaps the most popular form of invisible braces. Many dentists offer them to patients who are looking to fix minor to moderate issues with teeth and jaw alignment. They are considered by many to be a form of braces as they achieve the same purpose and use a very similar treatment process, however, they are an alternative option to traditional braces. Many prefer Invisalign® over traditional or ceramic braces due to the ability to wear them discreetly and remove the aligners when necessary.

How do invisible braces work?

Invisible braces work in a similar way as traditional braces. The ultimate objective is to gently push and pull teeth over time to achieve better teeth and jaw alignment. The difference between Invisalign® and traditional braces is that Invisalign® uses clear aligners that are removable, whereas traditional braces use metal brackets and wire that are not removable. Throughout the Invisalign® process, patients are required to regularly visit the dentist for new aligners. After treatment, the patient will also be required to wear a retainer to keep the teeth in their new position.

Who should consider invisible braces?

Invisible braces are great for those who could benefit from teeth straightening but prefer a more discreet way of correcting their smile to get the treatment they desire. However, Invisalign® specifically is designed more for patients with mild to moderate misalignments, whereas braces might be a better solution for severe cases. Additionally, older teenagers and adults are the best candidates, as a lot of discipline is required.
