1. A consult and 3D imaging come first
Every implant plan starts with an exam. At New Image Dentistry the dental implant consult is free. Dr. Blourchian looks at your teeth and gums, reviews 3D imaging of your jaw and goes over your health history, then explains your options and gives you a written plan.
2. There is more than one kind of implant treatment
- Single tooth implant: one implant and crown for one missing tooth.
- Snap-on dentures: a removable, metal-based denture that snaps onto implants. An upper one does not cover the palate.
- All-on-4: a fixed full arch of teeth on four to six implants.
3. Your bone matters
Implants need bone to hold them. 3D imaging shows how much bone you have and where. All-on-4 usually does not require bone grafting, and your consult decides whether you need any extra steps.
4. Healing takes time
Single implants and snap-on dentures usually need about 4 months of healing before the final crown or denture. With All-on-4, most patients leave with temporary teeth the same day, and the final zirconia teeth are usually delivered about 4 months later.
5. Daily cleaning keeps implants healthy
Implants do not get cavities, but the gums and bone around them still need care. Brush twice a day and clean around the implants every day. A water flosser makes this easier, especially under All-on-4 teeth.
6. Plan on regular visits
Keep your regular checkups and cleanings. All-on-4 patients also come in once a year for a maintenance visit, when the teeth are removed in the office, the implants are cleaned and checked, and the teeth go back in.
7. Ask questions and choose what fits you
Bring your questions to the consult: how many visits to expect, what your teeth will feel like, and how to pay. Monthly payment plans are available through Cherry, CareCredit and Proceed. You can take the time you need to decide.
A careful plan up front is the best start for any implant treatment.
