How long does All-on-4 last?

Zirconia teeth, daily care at home and a maintenance visit once a year. Here is what that looks like at New Image Dentistry.

Short answerAll-on-4 teeth are built to last for many years, with daily cleaning around them and a maintenance visit once a year. At New Image Dentistry the final teeth are made only from zirconia, which is very durable, stain-resistant and built to resist wear, so the part that needs the most attention is the implants and gums underneath. Individual results vary.

Zirconia teeth only

All-on-4 is a fixed full arch of teeth attached to four to six implants (four minimum). At New Image Dentistry, your final teeth are made from zirconia only. On surgery day you usually receive a temporary set of fixed teeth (not zirconia); about four months later, after the implants heal, the final zirconia teeth are placed. Zirconia is very strong, stain-resistant and built to resist wear, so it does not wear down the way acrylic teeth can. Zirconia can chip, but that is uncommon.

The implants and gums need daily care

The teeth themselves usually hold up well. What needs your attention every day is the area underneath: the implants and the gums around them.

  • Brush twice a day with a soft brush.
  • Clean under and around the teeth every day with a water flosser. We recommend one for every All-on-4 patient.
  • Wear a night guard if you grind or clench.

A yearly maintenance visit

Once every 12 months, you come in and Dr. Blourchian:

  • 1
Removes the teethThe fixed teeth are taken off in the office. Only your dental team removes them.
  • 2
Cleans the implantsThe implants and gums are cleaned where a water flosser cannot fully reach.
  • 3
Checks everythingImplants, gums, bite and the teeth themselves are checked.
  • 4
Puts the teeth backThe teeth go back in place, and you are set until the next yearly visit.

How do I care for All-on-4 teeth at home?

Brush twice a day and clean under and around the teeth every day with a water flosser, which our office recommends. Daily cleaning keeps the gums around the implants healthy.

Do I need to come back after treatment?

Yes. Once every 12 months, Dr. Blourchian removes the teeth, cleans the implants, checks everything and puts the teeth back in place.

Is there a warranty?

New Image Dentistry offers a limited warranty after treatment. Ask us about our limited warranty for the details.
